Personality & Traits

General Overview Syvok is a stoic and serious man with no apparent sense of humor whatsoever. He is careful, orderly and meticulous and expects the same of those around him. He has very little patience for foolishness, yet can be extremely patient when someone genuinely needs his help.
Strengths & Weaknesses S - Syvok is highly skilled all in both applied and theoretical sciences. He has remarkable fighting skills, both hand to hand and with a variety of weapons. He's an excellent marksman. And when all of that fails, he's still got the Vulcan neck pinch.

W - Syvok does have a temper, for all he gives few outward appearances, and struggles, at times, to keep it in check. He has been known to suffer an occasional lack of patience.
Ambitions Initially, Syvok's motivation for joining Starfleet was Just to get away from Vulcan. As he's grown older, it has become more a genuine desire to improve the lives of those around him.
Hobbies & Interests Syvok's primary hobbies and interests lie in botany, horticulture, and bio-genetic engineering.

Personal History Syvok was the only child of Representative Soshear and his wife, the lady T'Laine. From infancy, he showed remarkable promise, his mental and telepathic abilities ranking well above those one would expect. His promise only grew as he did until the time of his parents death and his terrible injury at age four. Following that time, he lacked any measurable telepathic skills.

Further, this disability - for so it was considered among the Vulcan Elders - rendered him incapable of mastering even the most basic of Vulcan skills. He was unable to mind-meld and impossible to bond. This only compounded the shame he was expected to bear, a shame he was often reminded of by his aunt, T'Shael, who, along with her husband, raised him alongside their own, more acceptable children. Syvok enrolled in the Vulcan Science Academy to get away from his family's shame and build a life of his own, only to discover that there was no place on Vulcan far enough to accomplish that. The day he graduated from the VSA, he enrolled in Starfleet Academy on Earth, took a transport there and never returned to Vulcan again.

He excelled as he expected in Starfleet Academy and once graduated was assigned to the USS Tyson; a science vessel sent to study life discovered on newly found planets. He spent the next eight years on the ship learning about new life and conducting his own experiments.

Eventually the USS Tyson returned home to be refitted and Syvok was shifted to Earth where he was assigned to the Starfleet Academy as an instructor; a role he was not particularly fond of or good at. Longing to get back out into the cold he quickly sought out a new assignment. When he heard the USS Hyperion was nearly finished and would be launching her first mission soon he actively sought out the ships Captain in hopes that she would agree to let him serve as her Chief Science Officer.
