Mission: Mission 1 - "Into the Unknown"
Location: Crew Quarters

Despite a running concern of his over the last week or so, Ensign William Rye had in fact arrived aboard the quite magnificent USS Hyperion early, something he had become grateful for very quickly as the extent of the mess the ship's flight control department had been left in became evident.

For the better part of a week, Will had spent his time roaming the corridors alongside the dock engineers, chasing up on shuttlecraft that had been assigned to them but were yet to arrive on his hangar decks or parts for those that were aboard but had been initially found to be inoperable.

When he hadn't been chasing down things that were missing, he had spent some time getting his new quarters up to scratch. Far beyond anything that he had slept in aboard the assortment of civilian vessels he had flown over the years, it was also clear that they were designed to accommodate for longer than the couple of weeks most of his civilian cruises had lasted and whilst the idea of spending an extended period of time in space wasn't something that would inherently concern Rye, he couldn't help but ponder the impact it could have on certain relationships.

Still, he had worked hard to reach this point and he had gotten extremely lucky for his first assignment to be such an incredible vessel, he wasn't going to give all that up now.

"Has it been hard?" His wife asked from the main monitor. Will had been calling home as often as he could whilst the ship remained stationary, knowing full well that the opportunities would be fewer and much further between once they were underway.

"Not hard" Ensign Rye replied as he moved across the room toward the replicator, "Just odd."

"You know what you're doing thought, right? The oddness will pass." Kelsey Rye watched her husband as he took his newly materialized cup of coffee from the recess in the wall.

"I can fly, sure" Will spoke before taking a sip of his drink, "But that's barely half the job. I'm supposed to be running a department too."

"I'm sure you'll be great at it" His always supportive wife insisted, raising a smile from the newly commissioned Ensign.

"I'm sure i'll get used to it," Rye said as he sat on the room's couch, "It's just..."

"Odd" Kelsey finished for him, offering a smile as she did, "Give it a few weeks and it'll be normal."

Running a hand through his neatly trimmed beard, the Ensign couldn't help but continue to smile too, "You're right, and we'll be moving soon too so I'm sure the time will fly by."

"Just stay safe, okay?" She watched as he nodded, "I love you."

"I love you too." He stood, moving closer to the screen as though that somehow closed the physical distance between them, "I'll be back soon."

Kelsey nodded, still smiling as the screen turned to black. Returning the now empty coffee cup to the replicator, Will took a deep breath before departing the room. He still had missing shuttles to find.
