Security Chief Reports In

Posted on Tue Apr 28th, 2020 @ 2:58pm by Lieutenant Michael Kennedy & Captain Anna Caldwell

Mission: Mission 1 - "Into the Unknown"
Location: USS Hyperion - Ready Room
Timeline: Current

Lieutenant Michael Kennedy was pacing his room. He'd gotten up early for his scheduled report in with Captain Caldwell, but he couldn't sleep all night. First impressions normally set the tone for your time aboard a starship. That's why he'd been pacing his quarters for the past hour. The meeting was in ten minutes - now was the appropriate time to head out.

Lieutenant Kennedy left his quarters and made his way to the turbolift and headed towards the bridge. He glanced down at his digital watch - a relic of the past, but nevertheless useful. He was a minute early, but he nevertheless pressed the chime.

Anna sat down another PADD on her desk, adding to the pile. It seemed the status reports where never-ending and most of the boring as dirt when tied up in Spacedock. The chime pulled her thoughts and she glanced at the chronometer. That was, quite likely, Lieutenant Kennedy. The man was certainly punctual; most security officers were. "Enter."

Lieutenant Michael Kennedy entered the Captain's Ready Room for the first time. It was an interesting experience. The Hyperion was a state of the art vessel, and thus this ready room was far more advanced than that of the USS Massachusetts. Lieutenant Kennedy stood in front of the Captain's desk and said, "Lieutenant Kennedy, Chief Security/Tactical Officer, reporting for duty, sir."

"Welcome to the Hyperion Lieutenant. Please, have a seat."

Kennedy took a seat across from the Captain. One he did his right leg started to shake. He gave himself a small smack on the leg to make it stop. Luckily it did. He looked forward at the Captain, waiting for her to speak.

"Your record speaks for itself, so I really don't feel the need to go on about that." Anna leaned back. "Have you had a change to familiarize yourself with the security and tactical departments? We certainly don't lack phasers or torpedo tubes or security officer on this ship after all."

Lieutenant Kennedy smiled, "Yes, Captain. It's truly an honor to have been selected as the Security Chief for the Hyperion. She's one of the most advanced ships in the fleet. I've also taken some time to get the office squared away and up to date on all the pending reports. We definitely have some work to do but I'm certain the security team can accomplish it." He paused for a moment, "I took some time to review upcoming mission overview. I assume that with Vice Admiral T'Prit coming aboard, we will want increased security. I've prepared this plan for your review."

Kennedy handed over a PADD with the details. He proposed an 25% increase of security patrols for the area around the Admiral's quarters, a two person security detail, and increased security office monitoring. When any flag officer came aboard one of his ships, Kennedy's job became much more complicated. If anything were to happen to them, any review board would be combing through his department, which would most definitely be a headache.

Anna scrolled though the PADD. The plan was solid and she certainly wouldn't argue with the need for more security. "It looks solid Lieutenant; you have my go ahead to implement it. With political tensions running as high as they I am more than ok with some extra security precautions." She handed back the PADD. "I would also like to increase security around the engineering sections; specifically the Quantum Slipstream Drive. I don't anticipate any security breaches but again, the state of the galaxy is rather precarious and I have no desire for any sort of." Anna paused to find the correct word. "Mishap."

Lieutenant Kennedy's mind flashed immediately to the videos and images broadcast from Mars. In the days and months since the attack, Starfleet had banned synthetics and he did not disagree with them. Why risk another loss of life? They'd lost just under 100,000 people in a day. Imagine if synthetics took control of the Hyperion? The damage they could have inflicted would be severe. "Of course sir."

"Very good Lieutenant. I will leave you to your work. Dismissed."

With that, Lieutenant Kennedy turned and left the ready room. He headed towards his office - time to update security shifts!
